If you need new tires for your EV, Yokohama Tire’s new ADVAN Sport EV A/S is now available in the U.S. It’s an ultra-high-performance all-season tire specifically designed for electric vehicles. The Sport EV comes in 10 sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches, as stated by Drew Dayton, Yokohama Tire’s Senior Product Planning Manager for consumer tires. According to Dayton, it is the inaugural tire to feature the new E+ badge, indicating compatibility with electric vehicles and capability to meet their specific requirements.

What Is Yokohama’s E+?

E+ is a mark exclusively for tires designed for electric vehicles. It signifies that these tires incorporate proprietary technology to meet or exceed the requirements of electric passenger cars, buses, or trucks. Tires installed on electrified vehicles must meet specific requirements tailored to their operational demands. Firstly, they need sufficient strength to endure the increased loads resulting from heavy electric batteries and the substantial torque generated by electric motors. Additionally, these tires must possess sound-absorbing properties to enhance the overall quietness characteristic of electric vehicles. Moreover, they play a crucial role in optimizing the vehicle’s energy efficiency and extending its driving range.

Introduced In Texas At The Electrify Expo

Introduced at the 2023 Electrify Expo in Austin, Texas, the Sport EV garnered significant attention. Dayton highlighted its appeal to EV drivers, emphasizing its durability with extended tread life, responsive steering, and effective braking in various conditions.

Benefits Of The ADVAN Sport EV A/S

The Sport EV is said to ensure long-lasting tread life through a refined contact area that distributes pressure evenly across the contact patch. This is particularly beneficial in high-torque EV applications. This feature promotes consistent wear over time.

Additionally, Yokohama says that the tire offers enhanced ride quality. This is achieved with a maximized sidewall construction that increases sidewall stiffness. This improves both handling responsiveness and ride smoothness.

Furthermore, the new compound enhances all-season grip. It achieves this by incorporating more silica and employing a proprietary mixing process. This innovation significantly enhances mileage and snow performance while maintaining the dependable dry handling characteristics of the original ADVAN Sport A/S+.

Finally, superior handling capabilities are provided by the performance shoulder, which includes oversized outside shoulder blocks that enhance cornering performance.

All sizes of the Sport EV are backed by Yokohama’s 30-day money-back guarantee and a 55,000-mile limited treadwear warranty.

All-In On EV Tires

Yokohama currently supplies tires as original equipment for various electrified vehicles, including premium cars like the BMW iX3, Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, and Lexus RZ. It also supplies tires for crossover SUVs such as Toyota Motor’s bZ4X and Subaru’s SOLTERRA, as well as mini-vehicles like the Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi Motors’ eK X EV.

The company is actively enhancing its development of replacement market tires for electrified vehicles by applying technologies honed through OE tire development. To signify tires that meet the unique requirements of electrified vehicles, Yokohama places the E+ mark on the sidewall of its tires. This mark is also prominently visible in tire catalogs and websites. This aids customers in identifying suitable tires for electrified vehicles, thus simplifying their tire selection process. The ADVAN Sport EV is the first tire from Yokohama to feature the E+ mark.

Yokohama Has A Strong U.S. Presence

Yokohama owns and operates two advanced manufacturing plants and a research & development center in the United States. The workforce of 2,100 employees is primarily based at these facilities. Specifically, there is a research and development center located in Cornelius, North Carolina. The company has manufacturing plants in Salem, Virginia, and West Point, Mississippi. These facilities collectively produce millions of tires every year for both our consumer and commercial divisions.
