NAEV’s Cyber Hummer: A Glimpse Into The Future Of Extreme Upcycling

Share this:

In the realm of electric vehicles, a new titan has emerged, redefining the limits of acceleration and power. No, not the Ultium-based GMC Hummer EV, but it’s older, more buff big brother. Meet the “Cyber Hummer,” a gigantic rig that marries the rugged appeal of the classic Hummer H1 with the clean energy technology of today’s EVs.

Crafted by North American Electric  Vehicles, (NAEV,) this truck is not just a nod to the past but a bold leap into the future. It’s also a great example of “upcycling,” i.e., updating an ICE-powered vehicle with an electric drivetrain.

Dual Electric Motors

At the heart of the Cyber Hummer lies a dual electric motor setup, delivering a stump-pulling 1,000 bhp. This mega power translates to a 0-62 mph sprint in a mere 2.5 seconds. This rivals the performance of the world’s fastest supercars. Yet, the Cyber Hummer promises a range of approximately 300 miles, thanks to a selection of Tesla-sourced batteries. The Cyber Hummer uses NACS connectors and is compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network.

These batteries are strategically placed in the original military-grade chassis but lowered for enhanced performance dynamics. NAEV’s knack for innovation is further evident in the vehicle’s weight reduction. By transitioning to an aluminum body, the Cyber Hummer’s weight is nearly halved. This contributes to its agility and efficiency. What this does for body rigidity and durability is unknown, but this weight reduction is admirable.

Fully Independent, Adjustable Suspension

The suspension system has also transformed. The new independent, fully adjustable setup is not only lighter but also stronger, ensuring that the Cyber Hummer can tackle any terrain with ease. With all-terrain tires providing up to 16 inches of ground clearance, this vehicle is as much an off-road champion as it is a high-performance EV.

Regenerative Braking

NAEV has integrated Tesla’s regenerative braking system, complemented by Brembo calipers, to ensure that the vehicle’s stopping power matches its impressive acceleration. Inside, the Cyber Hummer boasts a Momo steering wheel, vegan leather upholstery, and a modernized sound system, offering a luxurious experience without compromising the vehicle’s utilitarian roots.

Jeffrey Kotulak, the founder of NAEV, believes that the H1’s classic design is ideally suited for an EV conversion, balancing the weight and distribution of batteries perfectly. The electrified trucks, according to Kotulak, offer an unparalleled driving experience.

As the first examples roll out this summer, potential owners can choose from three trim grades: Baja, Commander, and Executive, each with its own unique features and price point. While there’s no word yet on a commemorative Olympic high jump version, the Cyber Hummer itself is a testament to elbow grease, ingenuity, and the endless possibilities of electric vehicle technology.
