Mercury Unveils More Powerful Avator 20e and 35e Electric Outboards

Hang on to your tiller because Mercury Marine has introduced a pair of more powerful e-motors. Say hello to Mercury’s new Avator 20e and 35e electric outboards.

Meet Mercury’s new Avator 20e and 35e Electric Outboards

Recently we aimed the spotlight on the Veer V13 electric boat powered by the Mercury Marine Avator 7.5e electric outboard. Mercury Marine’s newest pair of electric outboards, the Avator 20e and 35e, feature many of the same features as the 7.5e. The tally includes the industry’s first transverse flux motor technology, full color display, ambidextrous tiller or remote steering, and high-strength three-blade prop.

Mercury’s New Avator 20e and 35e Electric Outboards Offer More Power

The Avator 20e offers 2,200W of power at the propeller shaft. Mercury Marine says that this gives the 20e acceleration like a 5hp Mercury FourStroke outboard. The 35e generates 3,700W of power and generates the acceleration of a Mercury 9.9hp FourStroke outboard. This means the motors are ideal for aluminum fishing boats, micro skiffs, rigid inflatables, tenders, and small pontoons. Fun fact: Mercury says the Avator 35e electric outboard is 63 percent quieter than a 6hp four-stroke outboard at full throttle.

Avator Power Center Can Connect Four Batteries

Here’s a cool feature of the Avator 20e and 35e. By adding an Avator Power Center you can connect up to four batteries to extend range and runtime. The Power Center also serves as a central hub for power cable connections. This means an orderly installation in the boat. Furthermore, power cable connections use a twist-lock design, so no tools are necessary. And speaking of batteries, the 20e and 35e use a 2,300W lithium-ion battery. It was developed in partnership with the Navico Group’s Mastervolt brand. It’s been drop-tested and it’s IP67 rated for water resistance. Charging is handled by a 230W Avator smart charger which can recharge a fully depleted 2,300W battery in approximately 10 hours. Optional: a 520W charger that can cut the charge time by 50 percent.

More Avator Features

The Avator electric 20e and 35e outboard motors also feature digital remote controls. These offer instant throttle response and are available in three versions to fit the helm styles that are popular on small boats. Additionally, the Mercury SmartCraft Connect module is pre-installed on each motor. This allows boaters to wirelessly connect the motor to the Mercury Marine app via mobile device. This app offers info such as a range of performance data points and a GPS map with visualized range estimates for trip planning.

More Avator Electric Outboards to Come

Mercury Marine notes that it has more electric outboards to unveil in the coming months. Stay tuned to Electrified for more info as it becomes available.
