The Veer V13 electric boat is an attention-grabber for those looking to buy a low-cost boat that can seat one or two passengers. It’s electric motor option is a budget-friendly way to extend your electrified lifestyle onto the water.
Mercury Avator 7.5e Electric Outboard Motor
The Veer V13 can be optioned with Mercury’s Avator 7.5e electric outboard. The “whisper-quiet” 7.5e is the first of five Avator electric outboard motors that Mercury plans to announce in 2023. The motor uses transverse flux motor technology, an industry first. The result is high torque with little effort, which maximizes battery life while providing quick acceleration and efficiency. The motor includes a hydrodynamic lower unit and an ultra-efficient prop. The Avator 7.5e produces up to 7.5 hp and has a range of up to 10 miles. Mercury says the 7.5e electric outboard has 80 percent less transmitted vibration to the tiller handle than a 3.5 hp four-stroke gas engine. Compared to the same gas engine, the 7.5e is 75 percent quieter at full throttle.
Battery, Charging, and Tech Overview
One of the very cool features of the V13 that the 1 kWh, 48V lithium-ion battery powering the Avator 7.5e electric outboard motor is swappable. This means you can bring along an extra battery or two to increase range. Developed in partnership with Mastervolt, the 17-pound battery is engineered exclusively for marine applications and includes an IP67 rating for water resistance. The system has a full-color display that tracks charge level and range. Charging is via an Avator smart charger that constantly monitors voltage and current to deliver a safe and effective charge from a standard household outlet. Higher speed chargers are also available according to Mercury Marine. Also, the Avator 7.5e is the first propulsion system from Mercury to be compatible with the all-new Mercury Marine app for iOS and Android devices. This app offers a GPS map with range estimates, digital gauges, and more.
Veer V13 Design
The design of the Veer V13 has created a small and lightweight boat. It’s great for tight spots thanks to an overall length of 13 feet and beam of 48 inches. And with its shallow draft of only 6.3 inches, it can easily navigate shallow water. The V13 is durable, too. The boat is made from rotomolded polyethylene. This means no paint to scratch or gel coat to damage. Furthermore, the V13’s size and 835-pound weight (boat/motor/trailer) means its easy to tow behind a small car or SUV. Standard equipment includes a galvanized trailer that is corrosion and saltwater resistant, a portable navigation light that is easy to assemble and stow, and a marine mat that is durable and comfortable. Optional equipment includes a standing bar, shallow water anchor, and a mooring cover. The boat has a maximum weight capacity of 550 pounds.
The Bottom Line
The Veer V13 is designed by Lund, a company that can trace its boatbuilding lineage back to 1948. The V13 is designed to be a microskiff like no other, to usher in “attainability, simplicity, and electrification.” The V13 is light, easy to tow, has a flexible electric powertrain, and cool features. Lastly, we “built” a V13 on Veer’s website and with the Mercury Avator 7.5e option the price came in at only $15,495 including freight and dealer prep charges.
